Races

Hawaiian outrigger canoe racing carries on globally in the rich culture and traditions of its birthplace. KIOCC is a member of the East Coast Outrigger Association (ECORA) which is a network of outrigger canoe clubs spanning the Atlantic seaboard of the United States and Canada. Races are held in various locations on the East Coast and the KIOCC participates. The ECORA Event Schedule provides a full listing of races for the season.

New for 2017, ECORA has adopted a Code of Conduct for all members. View a PDF of the code by clicking here

KIOCC will be Club Sponsor for the 2017

Bay Bridge Paddle.

ABC Events, Inc. is proud to announce the 1st Annual Bay Bridge Paddle brought to you by Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. The Kent Island Outrigger Canoe Club will be the club sponsor for this race which will be held on April 29, 2017 at Sandy Point State Park.

Paddling any part of the Chesapeake Bay waters is a thrilling experience and launching from Sandy Point State Park is no different. With a beautiful sandy beach on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, you are provided with expansive views overlooking the Bay Bridge. This race will bring together all levels of paddlers to share in a day of fellowship. Each race will present a different experience and challenge, the bay’s shifting conditions add to the fun as racers can experience anything from flat water glides to gusty winds and unpredictable swell and tides from the wind and current.

The Elite 8.4 mile Crossing will challenge racers with a high level of fitness and paddling experience; racers with less experience or conditioning can enjoy the 5K Paddle or the 1.5K recreation course closer to shore. In addition to these races, there will be other memorable events to entertain everyone, and with the generous backing of our sponsors, there will be over $7,000 in prizes and cash awarded!
